The Causal Organism of Cholera

چکیده
Choi^ra is almost universally attributed to the cholera vibrio, first discovered by Koch in 1883, and accepted, though not entirely without faint murmurs of questioning-, since. A doubt seems always to have existed as to the actual role played by t'he cholera vibrio, partly owing to the fact that a disease resembling cholera cannot be produced in experimental animals. Whilst to a certain extent this doubt persists, and is reflected in textbooks, in other respects the teaching of these textbooks is dogmatic enough. All refer to the enormous number of comma bacilli present in films made from t'he stools, and the " fish in a stream "

متن کاملProduction of Chicken Egg Yolk Antibody (IgY) Against Recombinant Cholera Toxin B Subunit and Evaluation of Its Prophylaxis Potency in Mice
Background: Cholera toxin (CT), responsible for the harmful effects of cholera infection, is made up of one A subunit (enzymatic), and five B subunits (cell binding). The release of cholera toxin is the main reason for the debilitating loss of intestinal fluid. Inhibition of the B subunit (CTB) may block CT activity. Objective: To determine the effect of anti CTB-IgY against oral challenge with...
متن کاملVirulence of Avian Serotype A1 Pasteurella multocida for Chickens and Mice.
The virulence of Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) serotype A1 for chickens and mice was determined. Groups of chicken and mice were exposed intramuscularly and intraperitoneally to various concentration of P. multocida broth culture, respectively. This strain was highly virulent for chickens so that those exposed to only 7 c.f.u. of the organism died in less than 24 hours. Groups of mice ex...
